 Dodital trek is a 24 kilometer track from Sangam Chatti to Dodital Lake in Uttarkashi, which is a beautiful and natural track of Uttarakhand. The Dodital trek can be done throughout the year only. Dodital is a famous lake in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. This lake is also called Ganesh Taal. Locally it is also called Dhundi Tal.

Situated at an altitude of about 3000 meters above sea level, Dodital Lake is a beautiful lake surrounded by hills. The trek from Sangam Chatti to Dodital Lake is one of the famous treks in Uttarakhand.

For the Dodital trek, tourists come from Uttarkashi by shared jeep or taxi till Sangam Chatti. Dodital trek starts from Sangam Chatti.

Sangam Chatti - Dodital Trek

Sangam Chatti is a village situated at a distance of about 14 kilometers from Uttarkashi. This village is the starting point of the Dodital trek. Sangam Chatti used to be a small market before 2013, but in 2013 this village was almost destroyed in the natural calamity. The trek from Sangam Chatti to Dodital Lake is of 24 km.

This trek is not very easy, but this trek is not very difficult either, with some difficult and high and low paths. Ahead of Sangam Chatti, the first base camp is set up in Agora village, which is about 6 km from there on the way to Dodital Lake.

Agora Village - Dodital Trek

Agora village looks like a garden full of flowers. You can take a guide with you for trekking from Agora village. All trekking equipments are also available here. There are also some home stays in this small village where tourists stay for the night and start the next day trek.

Bebra Village - Dodital Trek

Bebra village is 2 km ahead of Agora. Some tourists stay at Bebra instead of Agora and proceed the next day. It takes 4 hours or a little more to reach Bebra from Sangam Chatti. This path goes through the forests.

From Bebra the next day trekkers leave for Manjhi which is a camping site. Manjhi is about 9 kms trek from Bebra. Beyond Manjhi, there remains only a 5 kilometer trek to Dodital.

Dodital Lake 

There is a 14 kilometer trek from Bebra to Dodital. Tourists reach Dodital and enjoy the beautiful views of nature there and also camp for the night. In summer, where Dodital is covered with a green natural sheet of grass, in winter Dodital Lake freezes and a layer of snow is spread around it.

The Ganesh temple situated on the banks of Dodital Lake is the center of religious faith of the people. Beyond Dodital, large groups of tourists go for trekking on Darwa Pass and Daira Bugyal Track.

Darwa peak

From Dodital, tourists further trek to Darwa Peak. From here Darva Peak can be reached by trekking about 5 km. It is a difficult climb. This 5 kilometer trek takes around 5 hours only. After returning from there, the tourists once again camp at Dodital. Next day trek back from Dodital to Agora village. After halting at Agora, the tourists trek back to Sangam Chatti the next day.

In this way this trek is of 5 days. This trek is quite popular as its difficulty level is not very high. Apart from this trek, the Daria Bugyal trek of Uttarkashi is also very famous. Beyond Dodital, trekkers also trek up to Yamunotri during the summer season.

How To Reach For Dodital Trek

By Flight

If you are traveling from a different state of the country or from abroad, then Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Uttarkashi. The distance from Dehradun to Uttarkashi is about 140 km. Sangamchatti for Dodital track is the place which can be reached by shared jeep or taxi.

By Train

One can reach Uttarkashi by road from Dehradun or Rishikesh railway station by state transport bus or taxi. Dehradun and Rishikesh are well connected by the railway network of India and all major railway stations in the country have direct or connected trains to these stations. Uttarkashi is not connected to the train network so Dehradun or Rishikesh are the nearest stations.
