Baijnath Temple is a group of many temples in which the main temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. These temples of Baijnath are ancient, more than one thousand years old. Baijnath Temple is situated on the banks of the Gomti River at a distance of about 20 kilometers from Bageshwar.

It is said about the main temple of Baijnath that this temple was built in just one night. The credit for building the Baijnath temple goes to the Katyuri rule of Kumaon.

Baghnath / Bagnath Temple, located in the heart of Bageshwar city, is a famous temple dedicated to the tiger form of Lord Shiva. Mythological stories related to this temple are also popular. According to the legend, at this place Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a tiger/lion to sage Markandeya. That is why this temple is called Baghnath temple. This is the reason why Bageshwar got its name.

The Bagnath temple was established about 1500 years ago and the present temple is also about 800 years old. This was built during the rule of Lakshmi Chand, the king of Kumaon.

How to reach Bageshwar

By Flight to Bageshwar

One can reach here only by road. There are good roads from Delhi to Bageshwar and often tourists from Delhi and nearby places prefer to come by their own vehicle. Pant Nagar Airport is the nearest airport to Bageshwar Hill Station. Distance from Pantnagar to Bageshwar is about 180 km. There are flight connectivity from Delhi to Pant Nagar airport. Once you reach Pant Nagar airport, you can reach Bageshwar by road by bus or taxi.

By Train to Bageshwar

Bageshwar is a small hill station which is not connected by train network. The nearest railway station is Kathgodam, which is about 150 km from here. One can reach here by road ahead of Kathgodam. Even after reaching Haldwani by train, further to Bageshwar can be reached by road.

By Road to Bageshwar
