 Kandar Devta Mandir Uttarkashi: Kandar Devta is considered to be the deity of past and future. Kandar Devta is also considered as the protectors of  Sangrali Pata, Khand Gangori, Lakheswar, Barahat (Uttarakashi) and Basuga villages. Although the original temple of Kandar Devta is located at Sangrali village, at some distance from Uttarkashi city on the uphill route but there is also a temple of Kandar Devta in Pata Bugyal village.

There is a popular story told related to the origin of the temple. It is said that once a farmer was plowing his field when he found an eight metal idol buried in the field. The farmer handed over the idol to the king and the king kept it in the temple of his palace. The next morning when the king came to worship, he saw that the idol was placed at the top. After this, the king took that idol to Parshuram temple and the priest there suggested to install this idol on Varanavat mountain away from the city. 

that idol was named as Kandar Devta. During the Magh Mela, when people reach here with the dolis of their respective village deities, at that time the dolis of all other deities are below the doli of Kandar Devta. Kandar Devta is considered to be the biggest deity here.

Significance of Kandar Devta Mandir Uttarkashi

Kandar Devta is considered to be the supreme deity in Sangrali village and that is why the local people come there for the solution of all their problems. Whether these problems are of everyday life, related to health or law, the people of the village come here to find solutions to their problems. For this, a doli is kept in the courtyard of the temple and when two people lift this doli on their shoulders, its pointed end starts falling on the ground and something seems to be written.

People consider this as the solution to their problems. On the basis of these lines only, from matching horoscopes to marriage, major decisions are taken. The local people consider Kandar Devta as a form of Lord Shiva.

Bhandadi fair is organized in Kandar Devta Mandir. The local people in traditional dress participate in folk dance and wish for happiness, prosperity and prosperity on this day. On the day of festival, religious ceremonies start from the early morning. During this festival, devotees keep dancing with the doli till late night. After the festival is over, the priests keep the idol of Kandar deity in a separate place for resting. The resting period is for three days.

On the day of any festival celebrated here, Kandar Devta is first bathed in the Ganges. Magh Mela is also inaugurated in the same way. Magh Mela is an ancient commercial fair of Uttarkashi. This fair starts every year on the day of Makar Sankranti i.e. 14th January when the carts of Kandar Devta along with other deities reach Uttarkashi in Pata Sangrali village. Starting from 14th January, this fair continues till 21st January. A large number of people from nearby towns and villages attend this fair.
