Many stories related to the temple of Golu Devta can be heard here. Golu Devta is considered to be the son of King Jhal Rai and his eighth wife Kalinga. According to a story, once King Jhala Rai got lost in the forest and there he met Kalinga. Kalinga was the sister of five gods whom the king married.

The king previously had seven wives but had no children. The king had a son after his marriage with the eighth queen Kalinga. The king used to do penance for Bhairav and it is believed that Lord Bhairav was born in the form of a son. During that time the king had gone to war and the seven queens, in the king's absence, removed Queen Kalinga's son from there and placed a stone in its place. They announced that the queen had given birth to a stone.

They threw the queen's son into the water which was seen by a fisherman and the fisherman raised the child, unaware of the queen's knowledge that he was the queen's son. This child was very bright and efficient. This child was aware of what had happened to him. One day, after growing up a little, the child set out towards his wooden palace. This child stopped at a pond near the capital where all the seven queens were sitting. The child said, move, my horse needs to drink water. The queen said how can a wooden horse drink water? On this the child said that if the queen can give birth to a stone then this horse can also drink water.

Angered by this, the queens presented this child before the king and then the child told the whole story to the king and told that he was the king's son who was thrown into the river and in his place it was said that the queen had Has given birth to a stone.

When the king came to know the truth, he became angry but at the request of the child, he forgave all the queens. This child later became famous due to his love for justice and was known by the names Golu Devta, Golju Devta and Golu Maharaj.

There is also a belief that the name of the commander of Chand Raja Baz Bahadur was Golu Dev and this temple was established in his honour.
